Splatterhouse 1 :

It is prominent in the early stages of the game and attacks with a vomit projectile. Takes three hits to kill, unless

you have a weapon. In Splatterhouse (1988), they are called "meat puppets". They do different things depending on the stage:

Stage 1: Serves as a host for the final boreworm, though other than that it's just decoration. Hoo heesh Stage 2: Moves up and down, using it's own body as a weapon.

Stage 3: Attempts to vomit on Rick.

Splatterhouse 2

In stage 3, Rick enters a room filled with Blood Puppets. Rick finds a chainsaw and kills them with it.

Ballon head In the flesh (no pun intended).

These enemies attacks are basically a combination of both of the Meat Puppet variants of the orginal game: Using projectile vomit and are able to move up and down. needs two regular attacks to kill, but one attack from a chainsaw will also kill them.

They are controlled by Balloon Head , a blob of flesh with powerful telekinetic abilities that seems to be the same "species" as the Blood Puppet...

Splatterhouse (2010)

An Enemy known as a "Spitter" appears as an enemy in sidescrolling sections, They are similar to Blood Puppets in both design and abilities (minus moving up and down). They hang by ropes of flesh instead of actual rope.

Trivia

  • The Blood Puppet is known as "Brain Dead" in the Japanese version, this actually makes sense as their body bares the appearance of a brain.
    • This could also be because of Balloon Head having psychic powers, and that the Blood Puppets are just that, puppets.
  • In Splatterhouse (2010), there is a creature similar to the Blood Puppet called a "Spitter".
  • Because one Blood Puppet do BOTH of the possible attacks available to meat puppets, it is possible they are either evolved or advanced versions of the meat puppets. If the former is true, that means that Splatterhouse monsters, while still hellspawn, can actually evolve and adapt to their environment. This might also be the case for the Dock Zombies, which are green instead of Red and take two hits instead of one.
  • In Spaltterhouse 2, Right before Balloon Head crashes through the wall, four blood puppets will fall and act as if they were being attacked by a chainsaw. Whether is was a technical joke, Balloonhead killing them out of anger, or a simple glitch is completely unknown.
  • It's never explained how the puppet enemies are able to vomit with a rope squeezing their necks from the gravity, as it would block off their means of doing so.
  • The Hanging Man's appearance is similar to the appearance of Jason Vorhees in Friday the 13th Part 2, where he is depicted with a bag over his head with a single eye hole before his iconic hockey mask.
